There's a reason this message below blew up on LinkedIn as it struck a chord of truth with those who read it there. Thanks to all of you who took the time to kindly share why and how it resonated with you!
"Don't take this wrong way buuuutttt..." 😵
No. No. No. Start to catch yourself the moment your autopilot mind begins to spew these words habitually.
The words that come next in the sentence contradict what you're truly thinking and feeling. 😳
Your energy and your words are incoherent and you lose the person because they barely hear what comes next.
You've just taught them you're okay either lying to yourself or to them. They won't say this, but it will stick with them since they EXPERIENCED it. The energy dynamics of your connection will be different moving forward as their trust in you is damaged.
You use this phrase to protect your ego, and you believe you're also protecting the other person. You think you're being honest yet you're not sure they can handle what you really want to say so your delivery is then "protected" by these words.
People will always appreciate your truth and honesty, even if they don't agree with it. So lose the buffers - they never worked anyways. All they do is cause incoherence within you and tension in relationships.
This is a tiny piece of Authentic communication, which is imperative as leaders. The old ways are dying. Arrogance, deceit, manipulation and the role of the boss as the enforcer is a thing of the past.
You'll need to develop new ways of connecting with and inspiring others, and it all starts with YOU. Are you ready??
